The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in implementing video review systems.
Replay technology will make its debut at The Championships this year.
Competitors will gain the ability to contest certain decisions made by the chair umpire, mirroring the protocol already in use at both the US Open and the Aussie major.
The new system will be accessible on the main stadium and the number one court for the duration of the tournament and on the other four show courts when they are staging singles contests.
This step comes just a year after the All England Club introduced ELC, which brought an end to the 147-year role of line officials.
Scope of Challenges
Players will not be permitted to challenge the call of the ELC system, but they can ask for the umpire to review other decisions, including:
- If a ball has double-bounced.
- Whether a shot touched an rival's racket or person during play.
- Possible hindrance at the conclusion of a point.
Importantly, there is no cap on the amount of challenges a player can initiate.
Practical Application
A recent incident took place in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.
The British player admitted it was a tough call for the umpire, but thought his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
The umpire watched a video and ruled Draper was responsible for interference, granting the point to his opponent.
Growing Trend
Video reviews aren't new for major tournaments. It has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have video reviews in place at every one of its events.
Further Updates
A further change at Wimbledon this year involves the addition of graphical cues on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This addresses situations where fans have sometimes been unsure if a ball was in or out.
In other news, with precisely a century of days to go until the start of the Championships, organizers have also announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
